Five (8/24) >>
That was the big day for me. This
was the day we were going up the Eiffel Tower and I was
very excited. I made sure all of my video camera
batteries were charged and that I would take a lot of
videos, and that's what I did. A lot of videos and
snapshots were taken. Anyway, on the way while walking to
the tower we passed the traffic tunnel that Princess Dianna was
killed.
We stopped there for a few minutes
to get a look at it and the memorial thing that people had been leaving
flowers and notes. The thing people were using as a
memorial wasn't for Dianna, it was already something else,
but the people were using that to post their notes and
leave their flowers on. It was right above the tunnel. It
was weird seeing the tunnel live after seeing it on the
news a few times.
When
we got to the Eiffel Tower we waited on a long line for
about a half an hour or so before we got to the ticket
vender. The ticket cost 60 Francs, that's about 12 US
dollars, not bad. When I was finally getting into the
elevator and going up, I could not believe it, it was
finally actually happening. The elevator ride was a very
quiet smooth ride, it was very nice even though you are
crammed I with a lot of other people, there are lots of
windows on the elevator so you watch as you're going up.
The elevator, which was the first one, stopped at the
second level or platform of the tower. After getting out
and walking around on the Eiffel Tower I was almost in a
state of shock, I was pinching myself and making sure
this wasn't another one of my Paris dreams I always had
been having for years. I took a few pictures from that
level but mostly videos, I took the best shots from the
top level after we took the second elevator to the top.
This is where we spent most of the time, about two hours
or so. The view was so good and it was such a beautiful
sunny summer day, the view of the city was just so
beautiful. I was day dreaming so much about all the times
I would dream about being up there, and here I was up
there for real taking videos and pictures. It was a blast
and I had a great time. From the top level we went back
to the second level, then took the stairs to the first
level. On the first level we spent a lot of time looking
around the shops and stuff they had there. There was a
fast food place on the first level there and we got pizza,
fries, and Pepsi and ate on the Eiffel Tower there, it
was cool. We sat out side at some tables they had set up with red
umbrellas, looking
out at the view as we ate. It was nice.
Not
too long after we got off the Eiffel Tower we went to the
Arc De Triomphe. It wasn't like the tower, we had
to take a long spiral staircase to get to the top. After
we were done with the spiral stairs we came to the main
area inside the Arc, just right under the top of it. It
has two windows in that area on each side of the Arc, so
there is some daylight inside that part of the Arc. There
was a little museum type of things in that part of the
Arc, and some seats to sit down and rest, the stairs
really make you tired. We just took a few more set of
stairs and we were at the top of the Arc, it was nice up
there. Another whole view of Paris except this time you
can see the whole Eiffel Tower, when you are on the
Eiffel Tower you see Paris but obviously not the tower
since you're on it. It was nice up there, there was a lot
of wide-open space on top of the Arc, even though there
were a lot of people up there. It was cool seeing the
traffic going around us from up there, about 16 city
streets all come together to one big traffic circle
around the Arc De Triomphe, I'm sure most of you have
seen it on TV or pictures of Paris or something. Again,
after seeing this on TV and pictures all these years it
was so cool and amazing being there seeing it all live
and being a part of it all.
